Kamizelka Post-Apo "Holenderska" / Dutch "vintage/post-apo" vest sewing

Pierwsze szycie na moim S4423 po dłuższej przerwie.

Cel - przetestować te wszystkie moje naprawy i przepracować nadmiar oliwy do smarowania którą poczęstowałem mechanizmy.

Tak , nie żałowałem smarowania (nawet nieco przesadziłem) więc jak ma pluć i robić plamy to już lepiej na jakimś zużytym demobilu :)

Bazę do szycia stanowiła holenderska wojskowa bluza/koszula w jednolitym kolorze zielonym (kiedyś) , obecnie raczej zielono-szarym.

Bluza w stanie zdecydowanie Vintage - mocno używana , sprana ale jeszcze z wszystkimi guzikami i tkanina nie rozpada się.

Uwielbiam przerabiać takie stare wojskowe ciuchy. Są świetnym materiałem aby mocno poszaleć , coś zmienić , ująć , dodać lub przemieścić w inne miejsce.

First sewing with the Singer 4423 after a long break.

The goal is to test all my repairs and work through the excess lubrication oil that I treated the mechanisms with.

Yes, I didn't skimp on lubricating the parts (I even overdid it a bit) so if it's going to spit and make stains, it's better to use some old surplus fabric :)

The basis for sewing was a Dutch military blouse/shirt in a uniform green color (once), currently rather green and gray.

The shirt is definitely in Vintage condition - heavily used, washed out but still with all the buttons and the fabric is not falling apart.

I love reworking such old military clothes. They are a great material to go wild, change something, remove, add or move to another place.

- Voyager 1 probe took the first joint photo of Earth and Moon from a distance of 11.66 million km.

- Elvis Presley's last concert.

- Actor Michael Fassbender was born.

- As part of the SETI project searching for extraterrestrial civilizations, the so-called "Wow!" signal was received. After years and many analyses, it turned out that it was most likely nothing special.

Najpierw koszula została pozbawiona kołnierza oraz rękawów i zostały one rozłożone na części tak aby pozyskać z nich tkaninę o jak największej powierzchni.

First, the shirt was stripped of its collar and sleeves and they were disassembled into pieces to obtain the largest possible fabric parts.

Następnie przyciąłem i wykończyłem część wokół szyi , guziki zostały przesunięte na wierzch. Później poszerzyłem i obrzuciłem tkaniną pozyskaną z rękawów wycięcia na ręce.

Koszula miała zwężane dwoma zaszewkami plecy. Rozprułem je aby odzyskać kilka cm w obwodzie.

Hmm... Głupi pomysł. Co prawda całość ma mieć taki "zużyty/prawie Post-Apo" wygląd ale po rozprasowaniu były tam paskudne ślady po szwach.

Zakryłem je dwoma paskami materiału i dużą ilością nici. Wygląda dużo lepiej.

Kieszenie , tutaj zaplątały się jakieś resztki bawełny w "jodełkę/HBT" z portugalskim kamuflażem - pasuje bo z tego samego okresu.

Dwie wewnętrzne kieszenie zamykane na metalowe guziki z francuskiej pałatki.

I jest.

Generalnie ta kamizelka nie ma być jakaś szczególnie piękna i estetyczna.

Ona ma być. Funkcja ważniejsza od formy :)

Then I cut and finished the part around the neck, the buttons were moved to the front. Later I widened and covered the armholes with fabric obtained from the sleeves.

The shirt had a back that was narrowed with two darts. I ripped them open to regain a few cm in circumference.

Hmm... Dumb idea. Although the whole thing is supposed to have a "worn/almost Post-Apocalyptic" look but after ironing there were nasty seam marks.

I covered them with two strips of material and a lot of thread. Looks a lot better :)

Pockets - here I added some leftover HBT cotton fabric with Portuguese lizard camouflage - it fits because it's from the same period.

Two inside pockets fastened with metal buttons made of French Army shelter half.

And it is.

Generally, this vest is not supposed to be particularly beautiful or aesthetic.

It has to exist and that's it. Function is more important than form :)

Szycie sprawiło mi dużą frajdę :)

Da się żyć i szyć bez wolnego ramienia (jak w Łuczniku 466) ale... Lepiej jak jest.

Przede wszystkim - jak fajnie było wrócić do tej mocy i szybkości którą oferuje mój S4423.

Nie będę oszukiwał , powrót nie odbył się bez kilku małych potknięć :) :) :)

Sewing gave me a lot of fun :)

You can live and sew without a free arm (like in Łucznik 466) but... It's nice that it's there.

Above all - It was nice to get back to the power and speed that my S4423 offers.

I won't lie, there were a few small stumbles :) :) :)

Papryka konserwowa - Epilog / Canned paprika - Epilogue

No to minęły trzy tygodnie od zamknięcia czerwonej papryki (plus kilku żółtych) w słoikach w towarzystwie octu i dużej ilości przypraw.

Najwyższa pora sprawdzić do czego to zgromadzenie doprowadziło.

Otwarcie słoika było bezproblemowe i lekkie , nic nie pyknęło. Czyli zamknięcie nie wyszło aż tak solidne. Do poprawy na przyszłość.

Po otwarciu wygląda nieźle , pachnie nieźle.

Smakuje... BOSKO !  To działa !

Well, three weeks have passed since the red paprika (plus a few yellow ones) were sealed in jars along with vinegar and a lot of spices.

It's high time to check what this gathering has led to.

Opening the jar was easy, nothing popped. So the sealing wasn't that solid. To be improved in the future.

After opening it looks good, smells good.

It tastes... DIVINE! This works!

Smak taki w sam raz , nie za mocny / nie za słaby. Szkoda że nie wziąłem się za przetwory wcześniej :(

Cóż , za to zbliżają się święta , ceny ciast w sklepach ścinają z nóg nie gorzej niż porządna "księżycówka" a coś by się zjadło słodkiego czasami...

Rzucam się więc z otwartymi ramionami na głęboką wodę i będę piekł ciasta :)

The taste is just right, not too strong / not too weak. It's a pity I didn't start making preserves earlier :(

Well, the holidays are coming, the prices of cakes in the shops are knocking off feet, no worse than a decent "moonshine" but I could eat something sweet sometimes...

So I'm throwing myself into the deep end with open arms and I'm going to bake cakes .

How hard can it be ?  :)

Singer 4423 Awaria (igielnica) / Singer 4423 Malfunction (needle bar)

I stało się.

Druga poważna awaria mojego Singera 4423 Heavy Duty.

W trakcie szycia coś nieźle walnęło w środku i maszyna się zatrzymała a ze środka w bardzo dramatyczny i teatralny sposób wypadła mała pogięta śrubka (jak na kreskówkach).

Dosłownie brakowało tylko aby maszyna zakaszlała i ostatkiem sił wyszeptała: RATUJ !

Objawy:

- Igielnica jest przestawiona / skręcona w prawo tak o około 40' (zamocowana igła nie jest frontem do szyjącego tylko pod kątem)

- Igielnica zablokowana , porusza się tylko w zakresie jednego obrotu kołem w jedną lub druga stronę.

- Po dokładniejszych oględzinach okazało się że po drugiej stronie igielnicy lata/wisi luzem jakaś część.

- Była jeszcze jedna rzecz której od razu nie zauważyłem mimo że była całkowicie na widoku - o tym za chwilę.

And it happened.

Second serious breakdown of my Singer 4423 Heavy Duty.

While sewing, something banged inside and the machine stopped, and a small bent screw fell out of the inside in a very dramatic and theatrical way (like in cartoons).

All that was missing was for the machine to cough and whisper with all its strength: HELP ME !

Symptoms:

- The needle bar is displaced / turned to the right by about 40' (the attached needle is not facing the sewing person, but at an angle)

- The needle bar is blocked, it only moves within the range of one turn of the wheel in one direction or the other.

- After a closer inspection, it turned out that on the other side of the needle bar there was some loose part hanging.

- There was one more thing that I didn't notice right away, even though it was completely visible - more on that in a moment.

Na początek procesu naprawy zrobiłem to co zwykle robi się na początek w takich wypadkach - gapiłem się bezmyślnie w odsłonięte mechanizmy i kręciłem kołem od zablokowania do zablokowania w nadziei że w jakiś cudownie magiczny sposób coś tam się odblokuje / zaskoczy / przestawi na właściwe miejsce i wszystko wróci do normy.

I zgadnijcie co się stało ?

Nic.

Kiedy wszystko zawiedzie - przeczytaj instrukcję.  Niestety tam również nie znalazłem odpowiedzi :(

Pozostała modlitwa albo YouTube. Wybrałem to drugie , mam nadzieję że Wszechmogący się nie obrazi :)

Najpierw wziąłem się za tą luźną metalową część po drugiej stronie igielnicy.

Znalezienie identycznej bardzo małej śrubki było (delikatnie mówiąc) trudne. W końcu po kilkunastu miejscach (supermarkety budowlane , zegarmistrz , gabinety optyczne) znalazłem jedną u ślusarza.

Jako że to dość trudno dostępne miejsce przydał się śrubokręt Philips z namagnetyzowaną końcówką.

To start the repair process I did what I usually do at the beginning in such cases - I stared blankly at the exposed mechanisms and turned the wheel from lock to lock in the hope that in some miraculous magical way something would unlock / snap / move to the right place and everything would go back to normal.

And guess what happened ?

Nothing.

When everything fails - read the instructions. Unfortunately I didn't find the answer there either :(

The only thing left was prayer or YouTube. I chose the latter, I hope the Almighty won't be offended :)

First I took care of the loose metal part on the other side of the needle bar.

Finding an identical, very small screw was (to put it mildly) difficult. Finally, after a dozen or so places (DIY supermarkets, watchmakers, opticians) I found one at a locksmith's.

Since this is a rather hard-to-reach place, a Philips screwdriver with a magnetized tip came in handy.

Po obejrzeniu kilku filmów z napraw tego modelu wiedziałem już (z grubsza) jak regulować igielnicę.

Przydał się taki mały klucz imbusowy (foto).

Delikatnie poluzowałem kluczem zacisk w lewo i następnie ustawiłem igielnicę idealnie frontem do szyjącego. Zacisnąć kluczem w prawo i gotowe.

After watching a few videos of repairs to this model I already knew (roughly) how to adjust the needle bar.

A small Allen key (photo) came in handy.

I gently loosened the clamp with the key to the left and then positioned the needle bar perfectly facing the sewing person. Tighten it clockwise with the wrench and you're done.

Igielnica nadal była zablokowana i dopiero teraz zdałem sobie sprawę co jest nie tak.

Nie dość że była obrócona pod kątem to jeszcze przestawiła się w pionie i była za wysoko.

Tak więc zakręciłem kołem tak aby igielnica była w najniższym położeniu , wtedy poluzowałem imbusem i obniżyłem igielnicę do wymaganego poziomu. Zakręcić/zacisnąć i gotowe.

Następnie chwila prawdy - zakręciłem kołem i... działa. Nic się nie blokuje , wyciąga nitkę z szpulki , szyje !

TO ŻYJE !

(wyobraźcie sobie szalonego naukowca który właśnie ożywił Frankensteina - to ten poziom emocji).

The needle bar was still blocked and only now did I realize what was wrong.

Not only was it turned at an angle, it had also shifted vertically and was too high.

So I turned the wheel so that the needle bar was in the lowest position, then I loosened it with an Allen key and lowered the needle bar to the required level. Tighten and that's it.

Then the moment of truth - I turned the wheel and... it worked. Nothing was blocked, it pulled the thread from the bobbin, it sewed !

IT'S  ALIVE !

(imagine a mad scientist who just brought Frankenstein to life - that's that level of excitement).

Skoro już i tak grzebałem w maszynie to poodkręcałem dużą część obudowy i wyczyściłem ją oraz nasmarowałem.

Dla ludzi których kręcą takie "rozbierane" zdjęcia - nagie mechanizmy widoczne od spodu.

Na chwilę obecną maszyna wróciła i szyje. Płynnie , gładko i... głośno :)

Awaria miała miejsce pod koniec sierpnia. Wtedy nawet nie chciałem się denerwować (miałem inne sprawy na głowie) więc schowałem Singera a wyciągnąłem z walizki Łucznika 466.

I wygląda na to że ciut się odzwyczaiłem od poziomu decybeli jakie produkuje S4423 w trakcie pracy.

Co by nie mówić - Łucznik jest cichszy.

Szykuje mi się fajne szycie , przekonam się co te moje naprawy są warte.

Aha , jeżeli ktoś się nie czuje na siłach to odradzam grzebanie - zanieść do specjalisty , niech pomoże.

Ja naprawiałem sam niejako z przymusu gdyż w najbliższym otoczeniu speców od maszyn brak.

Since I was already messing around with the machine, I unscrewed a large part of the casing and cleaned and lubricated it.

For people who like such "nude" photos - naked mechanisms visible from the bottom !!!

At the moment, the machine is back and sewing. Smoothly and... loudly :)

The breakdown occurred at the end of August. At that time, I didn't even want to get upset (I had other things on my mind), so I put the Singer away and took the "Łucznik"(Archer) 466 out of the suitcase.

And it looks like I've become a bit unaccustomed to the level of decibels that the S4423 produces during operation.

Whatever you say - Archer is quieter.

I have some cool sewing coming up, I'll see what my repairs are worth.

Oh, and if someone doesn't feel up to it, I advise against messing around - take it to a specialist, let them help.

I repaired it myself, as if out of necessity, because there are no sewning machine specialists in the immediate vicinity.
