Druga poważna awaria mojego Singera 4423 Heavy Duty.
W trakcie szycia coś nieźle walnęło w środku i maszyna się zatrzymała a ze środka w bardzo dramatyczny i teatralny sposób wypadła mała pogięta śrubka (jak na kreskówkach).
Dosłownie brakowało tylko aby maszyna zakaszlała i ostatkiem sił wyszeptała: RATUJ !
Objawy:
- Igielnica jest przestawiona / skręcona w prawo tak o około 40' (zamocowana igła nie jest frontem do szyjącego tylko pod kątem)
- Igielnica zablokowana , porusza się tylko w zakresie jednego obrotu kołem w jedną lub druga stronę.
- Po dokładniejszych oględzinach okazało się że po drugiej stronie igielnicy lata/wisi luzem jakaś część.
- Była jeszcze jedna rzecz której od razu nie zauważyłem mimo że była całkowicie na widoku - o tym za chwilę.
Second serious breakdown of my Singer 4423 Heavy Duty.
While sewing, something banged inside and the machine stopped, and a small bent screw fell out of the inside in a very dramatic and theatrical way (like in cartoons).
All that was missing was for the machine to cough and whisper with all its strength: HELP ME !
Symptoms:
- The needle bar is displaced / turned to the right by about 40' (the attached needle is not facing the sewing person, but at an angle)
- The needle bar is blocked, it only moves within the range of one turn of the wheel in one direction or the other.
- After a closer inspection, it turned out that on the other side of the needle bar there was some loose part hanging.
- There was one more thing that I didn't notice right away, even though it was completely visible - more on that in a moment.
Na początek procesu naprawy zrobiłem to co zwykle robi się na początek w takich wypadkach - gapiłem się bezmyślnie w odsłonięte mechanizmy i kręciłem kołem od zablokowania do zablokowania w nadziei że w jakiś cudownie magiczny sposób coś tam się odblokuje / zaskoczy / przestawi na właściwe miejsce i wszystko wróci do normy.
I zgadnijcie co się stało ?
Nic.
Kiedy wszystko zawiedzie - przeczytaj instrukcję. Niestety tam również nie znalazłem odpowiedzi :(
Pozostała modlitwa albo YouTube. Wybrałem to drugie , mam nadzieję że Wszechmogący się nie obrazi :)
Najpierw wziąłem się za tą luźną metalową część po drugiej stronie igielnicy.
Znalezienie identycznej bardzo małej śrubki było (delikatnie mówiąc) trudne. W końcu po kilkunastu miejscach (supermarkety budowlane , zegarmistrz , gabinety optyczne) znalazłem jedną u ślusarza.
Jako że to dość trudno dostępne miejsce przydał się śrubokręt Philips z namagnetyzowaną końcówką.
To start the repair process I did what I usually do at the beginning in such cases - I stared blankly at the exposed mechanisms and turned the wheel from lock to lock in the hope that in some miraculous magical way something would unlock / snap / move to the right place and everything would go back to normal.
And guess what happened ?
Nothing.
When everything fails - read the instructions. Unfortunately I didn't find the answer there either :(
The only thing left was prayer or YouTube. I chose the latter, I hope the Almighty won't be offended :)
First I took care of the loose metal part on the other side of the needle bar.
Finding an identical, very small screw was (to put it mildly) difficult. Finally, after a dozen or so places (DIY supermarkets, watchmakers, opticians) I found one at a locksmith's.
Since this is a rather hard-to-reach place, a Philips screwdriver with a magnetized tip came in handy.
Po obejrzeniu kilku filmów z napraw tego modelu wiedziałem już (z grubsza) jak regulować igielnicę.
Przydał się taki mały klucz imbusowy (foto).
Delikatnie poluzowałem kluczem zacisk w lewo i następnie ustawiłem igielnicę idealnie frontem do szyjącego. Zacisnąć kluczem w prawo i gotowe.
After watching a few videos of repairs to this model I already knew (roughly) how to adjust the needle bar.
A small Allen key (photo) came in handy.
I gently loosened the clamp with the key to the left and then positioned the needle bar perfectly facing the sewing person. Tighten it clockwise with the wrench and you're done.
Igielnica nadal była zablokowana i dopiero teraz zdałem sobie sprawę co jest nie tak.
Nie dość że była obrócona pod kątem to jeszcze przestawiła się w pionie i była za wysoko.
Tak więc zakręciłem kołem tak aby igielnica była w najniższym położeniu , wtedy poluzowałem imbusem i obniżyłem igielnicę do wymaganego poziomu. Zakręcić/zacisnąć i gotowe.
Następnie chwila prawdy - zakręciłem kołem i... działa. Nic się nie blokuje , wyciąga nitkę z szpulki , szyje !
TO ŻYJE !
(wyobraźcie sobie szalonego naukowca który właśnie ożywił Frankensteina - to ten poziom emocji).
The needle bar was still blocked and only now did I realize what was wrong.
Not only was it turned at an angle, it had also shifted vertically and was too high.
So I turned the wheel so that the needle bar was in the lowest position, then I loosened it with an Allen key and lowered the needle bar to the required level. Tighten and that's it.
Then the moment of truth - I turned the wheel and... it worked. Nothing was blocked, it pulled the thread from the bobbin, it sewed !
IT'S ALIVE !
(imagine a mad scientist who just brought Frankenstein to life - that's that level of excitement).
Skoro już i tak grzebałem w maszynie to poodkręcałem dużą część obudowy i wyczyściłem ją oraz nasmarowałem.
Dla ludzi których kręcą takie "rozbierane" zdjęcia - nagie mechanizmy widoczne od spodu.
Na chwilę obecną maszyna wróciła i szyje. Płynnie , gładko i... głośno :)
Awaria miała miejsce pod koniec sierpnia. Wtedy nawet nie chciałem się denerwować (miałem inne sprawy na głowie) więc schowałem Singera a wyciągnąłem z walizki Łucznika 466.
I wygląda na to że ciut się odzwyczaiłem od poziomu decybeli jakie produkuje S4423 w trakcie pracy.
Co by nie mówić - Łucznik jest cichszy.
Szykuje mi się fajne szycie , przekonam się co te moje naprawy są warte.
Aha , jeżeli ktoś się nie czuje na siłach to odradzam grzebanie - zanieść do specjalisty , niech pomoże.
Ja naprawiałem sam niejako z przymusu gdyż w najbliższym otoczeniu speców od maszyn brak.
Since I was already messing around with the machine, I unscrewed a large part of the casing and cleaned and lubricated it.
For people who like such "nude" photos - naked mechanisms visible from the bottom !!!
At the moment, the machine is back and sewing. Smoothly and... loudly :)
The breakdown occurred at the end of August. At that time, I didn't even want to get upset (I had other things on my mind), so I put the Singer away and took the "Łucznik"(Archer) 466 out of the suitcase.
And it looks like I've become a bit unaccustomed to the level of decibels that the S4423 produces during operation.
Whatever you say - Archer is quieter.
I have some cool sewing coming up, I'll see what my repairs are worth.
Oh, and if someone doesn't feel up to it, I advise against messing around - take it to a specialist, let them help.
I repaired it myself, as if out of necessity, because there are no sewning machine specialists in the immediate vicinity.
My first sewing machine - my mother's Łucznik (Archer) 466.
It has its own moods, but it's a very good sewing machine. You can see that this device is built to work for many years - not only during the warranty period.
Jednak w pewnym momencie kiedy już wciągnęło mnie w szycie zachciało się czegoś bardziej nowoczesnego. Klimaty Retro są fajne ale ileż można...
Poszukiwanie nowej maszyny szybko zaczęły przypominać podróż metalowej kuli w automacie do Flippera.
Miotałem się po internetach od prawa do lewa , chcę to a może tamto ? Nowa z uboższym wyposażeniem a może używana z extra dodatkami ? A może używany Łucznik z czasów PRL , w końcu ciągnie się za nimi legenda niezniszczalnych , przeszywających wszystko i jeszcze trochę ?
W pewnym momencie miałem dosyć i wybór tak trochę przypadkiem padł na maszynę SINGER 4423 Heavy Duty. Przyznam się że dałem się "złowić" specom od marketingu na to "Heavy Duty" w nazwie :)
Miałem pełną świadomość że dopiero się uczę i dlatego moja maszyna będzie narażona na różne wybryki które maszynie do szycia przydarzać się nie powinny. Ale będą.
A poza tym ogólnie mam raczej ciężką rękę do różnych urządzeń :I
Potrzebowałem też wolnego ramienia i większej ilości różnych ściegów (przynajmniej wtedy tak sądziłem).
Zakup popełniłem internetowo 01.08.2013 w sklepie ELEKTRO MIX Katowice.
Dotarł kurierem 02.08.2013 - w piękny letni piątkowy dzień (zastanawiając się czy aby na pewno dobrze czynię) odliczałem kurierowi na ulicy 745 zeta (płatne przy odbiorze).

The search for a new machine quickly began to resemble a metal ball journey in the Flipper slot machine.
I was thrashing around the internet from right to left, do I want this or maybe that?
New with poorer equipment or maybe used with extra accessories? Or maybe a used Archer from the times of the Polish People's Republic, after all there is a legend behind them that are indestructible, sewing through everything and a little more ?
At one point I was fed up and the choice fell on the SINGER 4423 Heavy Duty machine. I admit that I got "caught" by marketing specialists for this "Heavy Duty" in the name :)
I was fully aware that I was just learning and that is why my machine will be exposed to various behaviors that should not happen on a sewing machine. But they will.
Besides, I generally have a rather heavy hand for various devices :I
I also needed a free arm and lots of different stitches (at least I thought so then).
I made the purchase online on 01/08/2013 in the ELEKTRO-MIX store (Katowice city).
Arrived by courier on 02/08/2013.
And so, on a beautiful summer Friday day (wondering if I was doing the right thing), I counted 745 PLN to the courier in the middle of the street (payable upon delivery).
Early years :)
Present days.
Maszyna używana była głównie do szycia tkanin średniej grubości , bawełna lub bawełna z dodatkami.
Pierwsze szycia i... pełen zachwyt. Ale zasuwa !!!
Czasem nawet zbyt szybko. Musiałem sobie przyzwyczaić stopę do prędkości i zrywności. Z początku trochę ta zrywność irytowała ale jeśli się szyje w miarę regularnie człowiek się szybko dostosowuje , zresztą można to regulować w pewnym zakresie (pokrętło na regulatorze obrotów).
I po około roku pierwsze koty za płoty...
Wizyta w serwisie ARKA AGD 16.06.2014 Rozregulowana maszyna + wygięta płytka ściegowa + czyszczenie.
Zachciało mi się krótkich spodni z naprawdę grubej tkaniny jeansowej (idiotyczny pomysł nawiasem mówiąc).
Uszyłem ale trakcie rozregulowałem maszynę - na tyle ile się orientuję nie było to spowodowane grubością warstw podkładanych pod stopkę ale "pomaganiem" maszynie przy szyciu miejsc z nagłą zmianą grubości materiału.
Nie chciała szyć ? No to co robiłem ? Oczywiście ciągnąłem za materiał , popychałem etc :(
Jeżeli czuwał nade mną jakiś patron krawców etc to w tamtym momencie łapał się za głowę / opluwał kawą i załamywał ręce.
Cóż , początki są trudne i czasem bolesne. Niektóre błędy trzeba popełnić aby upewnić się czy na pewno są takie głupie :)
Szybko okazało się że spodnie z racji grubości materiału i krótkich nogawek nie nadawały się ani na lato ani na inne pory roku... poleciały do kontenera z używaną odzieżą.
Był to jedyny raz kiedy musiałem korzystać z usług serwisu gwarancyjnego.

Sometimes even too fast. I had to get my foot used to speed and agility. At first, this speed was a bit irritating, but if you sew quite regularly, you adjust quickly, moreover, the speed can be adjusted in a certain range (knob on the speed controller).
And after about a year, the first problems.
A visit to the ARKA AGD service on June 16, 2014 - machine need to be adjust + needle plate bent + cleaning.
Why ? Well...
I wanted short pants made of really thick denim fabric (ridiculous idea, by the way).
I sewed but during the process I misadjusted the machine - as far as I know it was not caused by the thickness of the layers placed under the foot, but by my "helping" the machine during a sudden change in the thickness of the fabric.
She didn't want to sew? So what was I doing? Of course, I was pulling the material, pushing etc :(
If there was a patron of tailors watching over me back then at that moment , he would grab his head / spit coffee and wring his hands :0
Well, getting started is hard and sometimes painful. Some mistakes have to be made to make sure that they are really so stupid :)
It quickly turned out that the pants, due to the thickness of the material and short legs, were not suitable for summer or other seasons... They flew to a container with used clothing.
It was the only time I had to use warranty service. Clearly my fault.
Po około 4 latach użytkowania zaczęło szwankować oświetlenie , pomogła wymiana gniazda z starego typu (bagnetowe) na takie z wkręcaną żarówką.
Mniej więcej w tym samym okresie płytka ściegowa zaczęła się wyginać do dołu.
Odginałem i na jakiś czas był spokój. Po pewnym czasie takich zabiegów w końcu pękła - wymiana na nową i jak na razie nic złego się nie dzieje.
Jak widać na fotce pierwsza , oryginalna płytka nie miała łatwego życia.
EDIT - 14.11.22 - Następna płytka ściegowa pękła dokładnie w tym samym miejscu.
After about 4 years of use, the lighting began to fail, the replacement of the old type (bayonet) socket with one with a screw-in bulb helped.
Around the same period, the needle plate began to bend downwards.
Usually I bent it back and it was good for a while. After some time of such treatments, it finally broke - exchange for a new one and so far I have no problems.
As you can see in the photo, the first, original plate didn't have an easy life.
EDIT - 14/11/2022 - The next stitch plate broke in the exact same spot.
Ostatnio tak jakby czasami regulator obrotów trochę przyśpieszał za bardzo kiedy jest naciskany ?
Ale jeszcze nie jestem w stanie stwierdzić czy tylko mi się to wydaje czy faktycznie jest jakiś problem.

I tak sobie upłynęło osiem lat użytkowania. Czasem maszyna stała nieużywana przez dwa/trzy miesiące , czasem była użytkowana przez kilka dni w tygodniu - takie domowe średnio intensywne szycie.
Tkaniny głównie średniej lub większej grubości. Raczej nieczęsto zdarzało się coś lekkiego , elastycznego - więc tutaj ciężko mi się wypowiedzieć jak się szyje takie tkaniny na S4423. Pewnie jest to jak najbardziej wykonalne - no bo czemu by nie ?
Choć ja osobiście unikam jak tylko mogę :)
Jak duuużo ściegów ! Tak... Przyznam się że kusiło mnie to w trakcie zakupu - "TYLE MOŻLIWOŚCI , WOW ! ".
Okazało się że tak naprawdę korzystam z może 30 % tego dobra , niektórych ściegów użyłem tylko kilka razy , tak zapoznawczo. Ale są to dobrze. Może się kiedyś do czegoś przydadzą.
Skoro okres gwarancyjny już dawno się skończył kusi mnie aby dodać dwie rzeczy. W jakiś sposób zamontować blokadę przycisku szycia do tyłu - tak aby nie było potrzeby przytrzymywania go w trakcie szycia do tyłu.
Oraz jakiś niezależny wyłącznik światła , czasem przy dobrych warunkach oświetleniowych nie jest mi potrzebna włączona żarówka.
Konserwacja maszyny - czyszczę... od czasu do czasu. To chyba najlepsze określenie.
Smarowanie - kiedy już się robi bardzo głośna.
Maszynie jak na razie nie przeszkadza takie podejście.
Dokładniejsze opisy konserwacji można znaleźć np. o tutaj (korzystałem zwłaszcza na początku użytkowania).

How many different stitches! Yes ... I must admit that I was tempted during the purchase - "SO MANY POSSIBILITIES, WOW !"
It turned out that I actually use 30% of this good, some stitches I only used a few times to get familiar. But they are - that's good. Maybe they will be useful someday.
Since the warranty period has long expired, I am tempted to add two things.
1-Attach the reverse sewing lock in some way - so that you do not need to hold it while sewing backwards.
2-And some independent light switch, sometimes in good lighting conditions I don't need a light bulb on.
Machine maintenance - I clean... from time to time. This is probably the best definition.
Lubrication - when it gets very loud.
The machine does not mind this approach so far.

Podsumowanie - Warto zakupić. O ile tylko jakość produktu nie obniżyła się w porównaniu z maszyną z 2013 to naprawdę warta polecenia.
Zwłaszcza dla osoby uczącej się - sporo wytrzyma i wybaczy (do pewnej granicy oczywiście) a później w miarę nabywania umiejętności będzie można coraz lepiej wykorzystywać jej możliwości.
Summary - Definitely worth buying. As long as the quality of the product has not decreased compared to the machine from 2013, it is really worth recommending.
Especially for a learner - it will withstand a lot and forgive (up to a certain limit, of course) and then, as you acquire skills, you will be able to use its possibilities better and better.
Podwójnej igły w moim Singer 4423 używam bardzo rzadko - ale zdarza się.
Cała operacja jest bardzo prosta.
Montujemy podwójną igłę zamiast pojedyńczej.
W tym wypadku użyta została "trójka" , 3 mm rozstawu igieł.

Następnie nici , użyte tutaj nici to Ariadna Talia i Artyn 80 - tki.
Mała przykrość - igły trzeba nawlekać ręcznie. Nawlekacz z Singera nie zadziała.
Przewlekamy najpierw pierwszą normalnie przez wszystkie przewidziane do tego punkty na maszynie.
Then threads , here we have Ariadna Talia & Artyn 80.
What a pity - needles must be threaded by hand. Sewing machine threader will not help here.
First thread normally through all the points provided on this on the machine.
Następnie druga nić przez te same punkty...

No i szyjemy. Jako podkład do prezentacji podwójnych ściegów posłuży nieudany mini-obrus z zamierzchłej przeszłości :)
Każdy ścieg pokazany z obu stron (góra i dół).
Od lewej - prosty ścieg i różne zygzaki. Możliwości jest wiele w zależności od ustawienia szerokości i długości ściegu , rozstawu igieł oraz użytej stopki.

As a background for presentation of double stitches I will use failed mini-tablecloth from the ancient past :) Each stitch shown from both sides (top and bottom). From the left - straight stitch and various form of zigzags. There are many options depending on the stitch width and length , needles spacing and the type of foot we are use.
I thought to try out all the stitches in the sewing machine. After all, I have it for several years. Because it is like this: when you buy a sewing machine it's often like " lots of functions, a dozen or so different stitches (at least), all possible pressers feet, as many options as possible "
Etc , etc , etc... And after a while a some of people notice that they really use 15% of it all :) Well, but it's good that it's all there. The head does not hurt from excess. However, I realized that I never used many stitches. So there it is - quick stitch sample card. It will remind what is available. Maybe someday I'll do a more decorative version.

Tak mnie naszło aby wypróbowac wszystkie ściegi w maszynie.
W końcu mam ją już parę lat.
Bo to jest tak. Kupuje się maszynę i człowiek szaleje " żeby miała mnóstwo funkcji , kilkanaście różnych ściegów (przynajmniej) , wszystkie możliwe stopki , żeby było jak najwięcej opcji "
Itp , itd , etc.
A po jakimś czasie orientujemy się że tak naprawdę używamy z 15% tego wszystkiego :)
No ale dobrze że to wszystko jest. Od przybytku głowa nie boli.
Jednak zorientowałem się że wielu ściegów tak naprawdę nie używałem nigdy.
Więc tak na szybko - wzornik. Będzie przypominał co jest dostępne.
Może kiedyś się szarpnę na bardziej ozdobną wersję.
